University Compulsory and Elective Courses

The Centre for Core Studies (PPT) manages and coordinates university compulsory and elective courses as directed by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and USIM for students from all faculties at USIM to equip them with preparatory knowledge for living in a modern society and to provide them with knowledge of the integration of naqli (revealed) and aqli (rational) sciences. There are nine (9) compulsory courses: UTC1012, UTP1012,  UBY1012, UTI1022, UTI1032, UTI1012 (for FKAB only), UTU3012, UTR1012 and UTC1022. Currently, there are two (2) elective courses: UTT3012 and UTK2012.

UNIVERSITY COMPULSORY AND ELECTIVE COURSES

Penghayatan Etika dan Peradaban

Synopsis: This course explains the concept of ethics from the perspective of different civilizations. Additionally, discussions related to contemporary issues in the aspects of economy, politics, society, culture, and the environment from the perspective of ethics and civilization can produce morally and professionally sound students. The goal is for students to relate ethics and civic-minded citizenship to strengthen social cohesion towards national unity.

Bahasa Melayu Komunikasi

Synopsis: This course is designed to provide students with the basic components of the Malay language, including reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills. Exposure to Malay culture and the Malay-speaking environment is also provided to enable students to communicate more effectively.

ETHICS AND CIVILIZATIONS

Synopsis: This course discusses ethical concepts from the perspective of various civilizations. CRITICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING

Synopsis: This course is a compulsory course. The knowledge and the techniques of thinking and problem solving that are taught should be of use to any student during and after his/her university education. This course is also designed to address students’ creativity and innovation; one of the core principles of MOE’s soft skills elements.

Additionally, discussions on contemporary issues in Philosophy and Current Issues aim to cultivate students who are more critical in addressing challenges in their lives and to utilize philosophy as a basis for fostering cultural dialogue and promoting unity.

INTEGRITI DAN ANTI RASUAH

Synopsis: This course covers the basic concepts of corruption, including integrity values, anti-corruption measures, forms of corrupt practices, misuse of power in daily activities and organizations, and methods for preventing corruption. Case studies related to corruption are also discussed. The teaching and learning methods employ experiential learning through individual and group activities. By the end of the course, students will gain an understanding of integrity practices, the concepts of corruption, anti-corruption efforts, misuse of power, and corruption prevention in society and organizations.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Sinopsis: This course aims to expose the concept of entrepreneurship particularly Islamic Entrepreneurship as the basis of inculcating innovative mindset among students across disciplines. By going through the process of entrepreneurship from the business perspective, students are expected to gain experience on how opportunities are brought into the market.
